The Philippines had always been a rich agricultural country, that realizing its people are now facing a great dilemma over rice shortage just sounds really absurd. How can an agricultural
country be facing such shortage?
Never did I thought that this time will come when I will have to witness the chaotic crowds of people waiting for their rice rations. The government is now providing rice subsidy to the people- offering them NFA rice at lower cost. The once 25 to 30 pesos-per-kilo-worth of commercial rice, now mounts to 45 to 51 pesos per kilo. Imagine the increase? Shocking, indeed!
The question now is, when will this dilemma end? Will a point come when people will do all sorts of things just to put something on their stomach? How long are Filipinos going to bear with the mayhem over a little ration of rice? Is this the end?
Religious critics found this economic crisis a sign. Yup, one of the signs of God's return- the last judgment. My aunt even told me that she fears that the time will come when people will have to be stamped with the devil's sign on their foreheads just to be able to have food for their family. I just laughed upon hearing this. It sounded like a crazy idea, but I found out that this is written in the Book of Revelations- the chapter in the Bible where all the predictions about the world are written.
Is this truly an indicator of the "end" of everything? Has God gotten mad already, that he decided to bring to an end everything in this world of sinners?
And along with this realization came my conceit. I then found myself wondering about my dreams. Will everything just end in an instant? Will I not be able to experience the life that I've been wishing to live? That's just it? (*sigh)
I just wish this rice famine will soon end. This isn't it, I know.... I pray...

dili ra pud oi... ahehehhe... dahan end of the world... nyahahaha
*sigh* this is sad. The government should work more on improving rice production of our farmers instead of trying to import it from other countries.
and maybe filipinos should improvise and eat other things aside from rice. I knw...we are so used to eating rice but noodles like bihon and canton are also good carbs,to give them energy.
hapit na, you goota choose your stand before everything ends hehehe
actually, it's a common misconception that the philippines is a big producer of rice. we're not.we're an industrialized country (although we're not really cut out to be one). blame it on the government; they're the ones who try to compete with the world market even though what we should be doin' is focusing on exploiting all our natural resources. did you know that even before the rice shortage, we import rice from countries like indonesia and india.? And the sad fact is, we trained most of the agriculturists and farmers in those countries. :)
nice blog, btw. very engaging posts.
